reading with Pals
Reading With Pals is a non-profit 501c3 organization that offers a unique approach to helping children (typically primary school-aged) with literacy challenges. We are a group of certified therapy dog teams ready to provide listening ears and non-judgmental responses.
According to The State Department of Education, only 49.6% of Louisiana children grades K-3 are reading on grade level. Four million children under the age of 18 have learning disabilities in the US, and they account for 47% of children receiving special education services, the National Center for Education Statistics reports.
Our certified therapy dogs and their handlers have completed educational and canine training and use a teaching method modeled after Louisiana Literacy Standards to enhance necessary literacy skills. These skills will help children build their confidence in reading, which will help them in their overall academic journey and life, for years to come!
Reading With Pals sessions are extremely flexible and can be implemented in many settings. Our teams are able to focus one-on-one on the individual interests, abilities, and preferences of each child, with no peer pressure. With such, each child can blossom in skill and confidence.
